Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT Review

The Corsair K95 RGB PLATINUM XT is an amazing gaming keyboard that’s versatile enough for other uses as well. The dedicated software lets you program all keys, including the six macro keys, and customize RGB lighting.

Corsair Gaming, Inc. Is an American computer hardware and peripherals company based in Fremont, California. The company was incorporated in January 1994 and reconstituted in Delaware in 2007

Unboxing of Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT

For this occasion, we asked Corsair not to provide the version with Cherry MX Brown switches, those balanced for an agile gaming experience but with a soft and low-noise feedback. The K95 RGB Platinum XT is also offered in two other variants with Cherry MX Speed Silver switches and the well-known Cherry MX Blue. Both the Brown and the Speed Silver ensure more than 100 million keystrokes, requiring an actuation force of 55g and 45g, respectively.

The keyboard is contained in one of the brand’s classic reinforced boxes, with the characteristic yellow vivid design and the clear image of the device on the front, so that its identification is inevitable.

The contents of the box can therefore be summarized as:

Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT Design

The layout is that of a classic 104-key QWERTY (the kind that come with numeric) with those six programmable macro keys that gamer keyboards always used to offer, but as mentioned, for this occasion they also fulfill the functionality of being part of the ecosystem of streamers imagined by the renowned brand Elgato.

The other great differential of this K95 RGB Platinum XT, and perhaps the most important for users who do not aim for the side of internet transmissions, is that finally, after many years, Corsair replaced its classic rubberized plastic wrist rest. and textured by a foam rubber with a textured leather cover, much more adaptable and soft to the touch. Like its predecessor, this addition can be put on and taken out to suit each user, further increasing the adaptability of this great off-road keyboard.

The design of the brushed aluminum structure once again repeats its effectiveness in this model, but it is also accompanied by a delicate backlight line on the upper part that accompanies the adjusted layout for the keys. On the other hand … literally on the other side, underneath, the K95 also offers the extremely useful X-shaped groove that wiring can be run through so it won’t interfere with typing, especially the headphone.

As we have mentioned more than once, the iCUE has reached a truly enviable level of design and performance, without interfering in any way in the day-to-day use of the system, and assisting in firmware updates of all devices that support it with virtually no need to do more than push a button.

Accompanying its intuitive and agile design, we must also add its main characteristic: in an ecosystem of Corsair products, it is not necessary to have a program loaded to configure each of the devices, and that is priceless.

It may not be necessary to clarify, but with iCUE we can configure the color of each key individually, as well as choose various patterns of lighting effects, along with their speed and lighting level. Thanks to its compatibility with peripherals, cooling systems, fans and other products of the brand (such as the RGB LED bars iCUE LS100 and the newly launched RGB lighting towers iCUE LT100, which we will discuss shortly), we will be able to synchronize the lighting of all our PC and its peripherals.

Of course, with iCUE we can also configure the macro keys (with a practical tool that details the milliseconds between each action) and other various settings when activating the Windows lock key (such as disabling Alt + Tab or Alt + F4). The indicator LEDs for lock, brightness and the -five- profiles can also be customized. The latter can be stored by hardware in the keyboard’s 8 MB memory.

Through the Stream Deck software, these keys can be given functionality similar to that of the Elgato Stream Deck accessory (which we covered on this site previously), for which macros or special activities such as opening a specific application or special activities can be assigned. run an action in the streaming software on duty, like X-Split or OBS, and for all the rest – like controlling the RGB LED backlight, traditional macros, and saving settings to the peripheral’s internal memory – there is You have to turn to the brand’s iCue cash.

The only con to this, is that we will be forced to install a second software only for this purpose. Perhaps Corsair can integrate it into iCUE in the future, but for now we will have to have both installed in case we want to enjoy this practical benefit.

In general, Corsair sticks to its traditional formula of sober but impressive and functional design, accompanied by excellent performance and durability, but now it takes a step closer to the requirements of a market that has moved from professional online skills to join the world of constant broadcasts through Twitch and YouTube.

Unfortunately, these new additions always renew the level of premium category of this type of product, which ends up reaching the price at which it is offered, but Corsair delivers on each of its promises with a robust, elegant and effective peripheral.
